Another Vintage pattern!

Peighton wanted the skirt with suspenders for our next vintage project.  I was glad she didn't choose the bell bottoms and vest combo!!!!!
Notice that the pattern is only $1.00!!!

Not sure why it's a super bad picture but you get the idea!  It was a very easy  pattern and Miss Peighton loves that it has "Spenders."  I think it will be a great addition to her summer wardrobe!  Or winter with long sleeves, tights and her fabulous boots!

Ouchie Bag

Anyone else's kid addicted to band-aids?  Mine is.  There aren't too many days around here where we don't require at least one (probably more) band-aids to make the ouchie go away.

I saw the idea for an "ouchie bag" somewhere-really can't remember where, I should bookmark these things!

Pretty simple though, and a great beginning sewing project!

Supplies
2 scraps of fabric (5 x 5 to be exact)
Rice
Extra fabric, buttons, pretty things, etc  for embellishments

Put your 5 x 5 squares right sides together.

Sew around the edge leaving about a 2 inch opening for turning and for filling with rice.

Turn it right side out.

Press.

Fill with rice.  Don't stuff it full-then you won't be able to sew it shut!

After you have the rice in, sew the opening closed, making sure to backstitch at both the start and the stop.

I used a scrap of minky on one side-I thought that would be soft on the ouchie.
And yes, I know that the heart is not centered...my crafty little helper wanted it "right there." Ok, whatever.

Now, leave it in the freezer and use it multiple times a day to help the Ouchies go away!!!!

Peighton is loving hers.  She gets it out of the freezer quite frequently for all of her ouchies....and all of her drama. ;-)

Another Rockin Dress-for ME!

Amazing what a few days locked up in your house will produce.  For me, it has meant going through my bin of unused patterns, then trying to find enough fabric to make it!  Then of course finding the time to make it in between making breakfast, lunch, snacks, playing games, wiping up baby puke, doing puzzles, wiping up baby puke again, making dinner...you get the idea.

When Joann's/Hobby Lobby, etc has patterns on sale for $.99 I buy a bunch thinking "Maybe someday I will make that."  Can't beat $.99.

My someday came for Simplicity 2401 today.  Such cute halter dress/pantsuit options!  Now I am not a pant suit kind of gal, but I may or may not have worn a very similar white polyester pantsuit to a house party in college with an Austin Powers theme. ;-)   I doubt I ever make the pantsuit but I do love halter dresses!

I made the short version of Dress "B."
Since we are homebound due to the weather, my options for fabric was kind of limited.  I needed a fabric that I had at least 2 1/2 yards of and I didn't want to use something I really loved when making this for the first time.  If it turned out to be an epic failure I didn't want to be sad that I had ruined a favorite fabric!

So, I chose an Alexander Henry fabric that I like, not love, but it's doable.  And it was one of the few that I had 2 1/2 continuous yards!

Here is how it turned out.  It's quite loud-I knew it would be.  But it's kinda fun too.

Once again, pastey-white-girl is not modeling yet!
I love the middle part-it's  a completely separate section and very fitted.  Looks great on and I CANNOT WAIT to wear it!  Melt snow, Melt!

I am for sure making this one again in some better fabric. I think it would be great in knit too-love knit.

I will admit I left out the invisible zipper.  I just wasn't in the mood to do it and there is a bit of elastic across the back so I decided to try it without.  I tried on the top part before it was all sewn together to make sure it would be ok and it's fine without!  Score.  Didn't have to frustrate myself with a zipper today!

UPDATE:

Ok, so I loved this dress so much that I whipped out another one. Yes, I am crazy.  I like this one even more than the first one!  A. because it's black and white (LOVE black and white anything) and B. I did this one in knit-fab.U.lous.
And guess what-I have the most adorable black heels for this one too!

I changed a one thing this time:
In the pattern, the front and back of the skirt have a seam down the middle-didn't love this so I made it one piece for the front and one piece for the back.  It's not quite as noticable in the black and white one but it made a difference to me!

I think  my next project is to combine the middle part of this one with the top of another pattern.  I really love how the middle part is fitted-the skirt does not start until the hip area.  But I don't always want the halter part of this dress. Sooooooo, I am going to combine a couple of patterns to make the perfect dress for ME!
I'll let you know how it goes!!!! ;-)

Scratch and Sniff Paint

Another day home due to the weather....another fun project for Peighton!  She is loving all the time at home because we keep coming up with fun things to do.

Kool-aid is great.  We don't really drink it but we do tons of art projects with it so there is usually some in my pantry!
Today we made Scratch and Sniff Paint with it.
Super easy.

Just mix the packet of Kool-aid with a little bit of water-maybe 1/4 cup or less.  And instantly you have Scratch and Sniff Paint!  Our kitchen smelled quite fruity this morning!

She was hard at work on her Princess pictures for quite awhile!  We can't wait to smell them when they dry!

Chenille Baby Blanket

This is not a new project but I thought I should share anyway.  It is one of my most favorite things that I have EVER made.  And that's saying a lot.

I came across Aesthetic Nest through another crafty friend of mine and I fell in LOVE with the cut chenille blanket tutorial.  I had to have one.  In boy colors of course.

I did buy the chenille cutting tool. It's  A LOT of cutting and I think I would have given myself carpal tunnel without it!

It's a really nice sized blanket for Preston.  We use it on the floor for playtime a lot and I plan to use it in his crib once he can have blankets.  It is SO WARM.  Sometimes Peighton and I snuggle under it while he is napping!  She really wants one of her own, but it is such a daunting task knowing how much time it takes!  She's still waiting...

The process was really easy although it did take a lot of time and a lot of boring straight lines of sewing.
I made my own binding-I never have luck with the actual blanket binding....maybe I need more practice!

Here are some pictures of my John Deere version.  It's pretty cute. And it gets softer every time I wash it.  Wish I had a big one for me this winter!!!

Whenever I get around to making Peighton one I will take pictures of the process.  That could be a while though!

Banana Split Pancakes with NUTELLA!!!!

Our second day home in a row called for some time in the kitchen to keep the crazies away!
(technically we CAN get out, it's just that it's SUPER cold (-11 to be exact) and we really have no reason to be out!

We decided on Banana Split pancakes-YUM.  Peighton is a pancake-aholic.  Loves them.  Possibly lives for them.
She is a great helper too.  She is the official egg cracker and banana smasher.
My favorite part is that you top them with all sorts of yumminess-strawberries, bananas and warm Nutella!!!!!!

Banana Split Pancakes
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
2 T melted butter
1 mashed banana
1 T sugar
1 cup flour
1 t baking pwd
1/2 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
Large pinch of ground nutmeg
Melted butter, sliced bananas, sliced strawberries, warm Nutella or syrup for topping

Mix all the wet ingredients, then add the dry ingredients.
Drop 1/4 cup batter into a hot skillet, flip when bubbles start to form.

Top with your choice of toppings and enjoy!

She LOVED them-said they were "super yummy!"

A yummy pile of goodness.

Just a picture out my front door.  Crazy how much snow we have!

Even Peighton's picnic table on our porch got a bit buried!

Dreaming of summer days

While there are like 14ish inches of snow outside I am warm and cozy sewing inside!

I was looking through my patterns a few days ago, finding things to make and came across Simplicity 3503 dress pattern.  I had been meaning to make it awhile back but never got around to it.
It made me think of warm days and summer and it seemed like a great project for a snow day!

I love dresses.  Mostly just casual ones to wear while out and about with the kiddos during the day.  But sometimes I have a hard time finding them to fit me right.  I don't think I've ever made myself a dress, especially not a knit one so I really didn't know how this was going to go!

I cut the pieces out last night while Dustin was giving the short ones baths.  I did a little of the sewing last night, but did most of it during naptime today.  It didn't take me nearly as long as I thought it would.

I loved the fact that I could make certain parts of it longer or shorter depending on how I wanted it. The pattern was pretty easy and I kind of made my own directions at some parts but it turned out great!

Here is a picture of it.  I did try it on but I am not going to put my pasty-whiteness on here for the world to see!  It looks fab with some strappy brown heels I have!!!

Both the front and the back have a V shape to them.  It's really cute on-you'll have to look at the pattern picture to see though!

I think the fabric was about $8.00 a yard.  It took a little less than 2 yards.  So for about $16.00 (and a few hours of my time) I just made a really fabulous dress.  I bought a similar one from Express recently for $59!
I love it and I think I might try the halter version from the same pattern next.   I'm going to be ready for summer in no time!
