Round Bale Fun

Who knew a few round bales in the backyard could be so much fun!

The kids have been having so much fun climbing on them and jumping from one to another.
Hope the cows don't need them anytime soon!!!!

He prefers to be "in the crack."

Of course Peighton wanted to do a few poses.

Preston played a little "woot-ball" with daddy.

These bales have  provided lots of entertainment for these two monkeys!

The Amish payed us a visit!

Preston and I bought 6 fruit trees a few weeks ago at a lovely Amish-owned greenhouse.
I convinced them to come and plant them for me too!
They planted them MUCH faster than I could have!!!!!

When they came, they brought a little Amish boy with them.
He was 6 years old and had a great time playing with Preston in the sandbox and on our playset.
He was the cutest little boy in his suspenders, hat and no shoes!
It was fun to see them play together.
I wish I could have taken some pictures!

We now have 2 apple trees, 2 peach trees and 2 cherry trees.

This would be my helper.

Two things that are never far from Preston these days:
His "Shoot-gun"
And his boots.

He's pretty funny with that little gun.
According to Preston, there are bears that need "shooted" out there.
He also likes to shoot crickets and grasshoppers.
And he's going to shoot deer with daddy too.

One of his favorite things to do right now is to go really fast on his "Teeter-tot."
We've been enjoying lots of time outside with the wonderful weather!

Apple Snickerdoodle Cobbler-Maybe one of the BEST apple recipe we've ever made!!!!

You might want to try this one.
It's our new favorite!

It's basically cooked apples on the bottom with a SNICKERDOODLE topping!!!!
Seriously good.

We will be doubling the recipe next time!

I found the recipe HERE.
You'll have to look at the link to see a picture of the recipe...ours was gone so fast I didn't have time to get one!

This would be my Chief Apple Washer.
He takes his job very seriously.

Apple Snickerdoodle Cobber

1/2 t cream of tartar
1/8 t salt
1/2 t baking powder
2/3 c flour
1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg

Combine all the cookie ingredients.

In a large bowl combine 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 t cinnamon.
Peel and slice apples, then toss with brown sugar mixture.

Pour into a greased 8x8 pan.

In a small bowl, combine 3/4 t cinnamon and 1/2 cup sugar.
Roll cookie dough into small balls and coat with cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Put the balls on top of the apples and press down gently.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 40-45 minutes.

It was gone in no time.
We will double everything next time.
I'm also thinking some other cookie doughs would be awesome on top of apples too...
The possibilities are endless!

Apple Monkey Bread

My buddies and I have had A LOT of apples the past few weeks.

We have filled the freezer with
applesauce
chunky applesauce
apple waffles
apple pumpkin waffles
and apple muffins.

But there were STILL MORE APPLES!!!!!!

So we came up with a fun snack they got to help make!
We decided to make Monkey Bread and throw in a bunch of apples chunks.

They were so excited I let them use a (plastic) knife to cut the biscuits.

We didn't really have a recipe.
We threw layers of biscuits, cinnamon and sugar, a little melted butter and chunks of apples into a bread pan.

It was a very yummy snack!!!!!

And yet there are STILL MORE APPLES!!!!!
Time to find more recipes!

Picking Corn with Grandpa

Preston got his first combine ride of the year yesterday.
He couldn't have been more excited when Grandpa called!

When I hung up the phone he immediately told me, "You not going. There not "Woom" for you, Mommy."

I'm ok with that though...I always had to sit on the cooler anyway!

Watching the combines, waiting to be picked up.

He also climbed all the way up by himself this year.

Bubba and his Grandpa ready to go!

And they're off.

Preston told me he likes it when they can see Matt in the other combine..."It's like we racin'!"

He also loves it when they dump on the go.
He does it the same way when he's playing tractors at home-his combine never stops!

If you look close, you can see him in his "Bubba Seat."

This is what Preston really likes.
All of them in a row going at the same time.

He rode most of the morning with Grandpa.
He ate all of his snacks that he packed while he was in there!
He can't wait until Grandpa calls again!

Lots of "Firsts" around here

Peighton started FIRST GRADE a few weeks ago!

She was SUPER excited to be at school again.

There was an ice cream social the night before school started.
Preston asked if there would be an ice cream social every night....;)

Peighton loves that in first grade "You have a DESK."
It's a big deal when you're six.
(In Kindergarten there were only tables.)
And "You don't have to share stuff, you know, you have your own supplies."

But in first grade you only have a snack if it's someone's birthday.

She cracks me up!
I love hearing the things she comes home and tells me.

The annual first day picture!

Bubba was not overly excited to put her on the bus that morning.
He loves his "Issy."

And one more "First:"

Preston has eagerly been waiting for the day that he got to go to "school."
He has had his backpack ready for weeks now.
He is going to the same wonderful lady that Peighton went to for a few years.
We call it "Miss Angela's."
Peighton has been telling him for awhile about all the projects he will do, and snack time, and playing on her playset.
He was very excited to finally go!

(Preston needs to work on his picture taking skills!!!!!)

He had a great time and can't wait to go back next week.
When I got there to pick him up I wasn't surprised to find him in the sandbox with an excavator working hard!
When we got home he said, "SHOOT. I forgot to do project today!"

He was so excited to tell Peighton all about his day when she got off the bus.
