National Cattle Congress

We loaded up the trailer again this weekend and headed to Waterloo for the National Cattle Congress.

Peighton showed a feeder calf for Pemberton Show Cattle.

She took second in class and made it into the final drive.

Anastasia and Cinderella made the trip as well.

Cinderella took Reserve Champion Foundation Simmental and 4th Overall Breeding Beef.

Anastasia was SUPER ornery and danced around for most of the final drive!

But Peighton hung in there and she took Champion Hereford and 5th overall.

It was a great way to spend a Sunday!

State Fair 2017 ---Part Two!

The second half of the State Fair was filled with calves.

Preston showed one of our bulls at the state fair last year and ever since then has been begging to do it again.

Friday afternoon was the Simmental bull open show.

He got a few last minute tips from Dad and Grandpa  before going in the ring.

He insisted on wearing his cowboy hat in the show ring.

I love when he drags his bull around like it's a big dog!

He went in all by himself this year!

He's going to be a fantastic little showman in the years to come.

Even though the judge didn't love his calf, he did enjoy talking with Preston.

There's room for improvement but he did a great job getting him set up and walking him around the ring.

He had fun and he brought home another ribbon to hang on his wall!

On Saturday, Peighton showed her two heifers, Cinderella and Drizella in the Simmental Open show.

She and Cinderella did a great job.

Somehow, the judge remembered Peighton from previous shows.

He also appreciated her ear tags and mentioned their names as he talked about her heifers!

I know both of those things impressed Peighton!

Both kids did a fabulous job at the State Fair this year.

Can't wait to see what next year brings as Peighton will finally be old enough to show in the 4-H show!

Beef expo 2017

It was a beautiful weekend for the Beef Expo!

We could not have asked for better weather.

One of the best parts this year was the craft contest!
Peighton entered a super cute bag and WON!

She's already planning what to make next year.

She had some of her biggest fans there cheering her on and helping her out.

Waiting to go into the ring...Dad and Grandpa making sure everything is perfect.

Miss Anastasia is Peighton's current fave.

Peighton loves her some red heifers.

She hugs her every time she's in the barn.

Peighton did a great job showing her.

Unfortunately, she chose to eat and drink very little the whole weekend-we've decided she's a bit of a picky princess.

Then there is Drizella.

She drank an entire bucket before going in and enjoyed the all-you-can-eat buffet!

She is the complete opposite of Anastasia.

Peighton did a great job with both of her girls.

It's been fun watching her confidence grow each time she steps in the ring!

Can't wait for the next one!

Iowa Simmental Field day fun

Peighton took Princess Anna on her first outing this weekend in Ames for the Iowa Junior Simmental Field Day.

It was a great weekend of learning and showing.

We drove around campus for awhile Sunday morning and Dustin showed Preston where he'll live in a few years and how there will be some nice Pi Phi girls right up the street. ;-)

Waiting to go in.

Looks like we need a smaller harness for Peighton.

This one is as tight as it will go and it's still too big on her!

Peighton did a great job showing Anna.

She ended up third in her class that day.

Super proud of this girl and her heifer!

Right before showmanship, Anna had had enough and gave up.

She laid down while we were waiting for the seniors to finish up.

Peighton thought it was funny and we made a cute picture out of it!

It was a long day for her as well.

We brushed her off and sent them into showmanship though!

Can't wait for the next one with these two!

Beef Expo 2016

We had a great weekend at the Iowa Beef Expo!

Peighton enjoyed sitting on the bales listening to her Ipod.

I think Preston's favorite part is digging in the bedding and having snacks.

We made lots of laps around the barn with Elsa.

Saturday was such great weather!

It was so nice to just have light jackets on and NO long underwear!

Peighton did a great job helping to take care of Elsa.

Elsa got to debut her new sparkly ear tag.

It's hard to see because she wouldn't lay her ears back, but she now wears a rhinestone ear tag.

Sunday was a bit chillier but still not too bad.

This picture is probably my favorite from the whole weekend.

Pretty sure she's getting some advice from one of her biggest fans.

Peighton showed Elsa like a boss.

Might be able to spot Elsa's new bling in this picture.

Peighton and I also found some new showing bling...we had to walk REALLY far to use the restroom and we happened to find fun stuff each time we went!!!!!

Someday I will be able to see Peighton over her heifer.

It doesn't matter what animal Peighton is showing, she is all business.

Another picture I love.

I see a whole lot of determination in this one.

Peighton did a great job setting Elsa up in the ring.

The judges came over and talked to her individually and she had no problem answering their questions and she may have even cracked a smile.

We took a quick picture afterwards.

She had a great time and is ready to do it again!
