Sidewalk "Squeezy" Paint

Another Pinterest summer "Must-Do."

 

 

We have made sidewalk paint a bunch of times and we love it.

 

I saw the idea on Pinterest to put it in SQUEEZE BOTTLES though and it has taken it to a whole new level of fun!!!!!

I only had 4 squeeze bottles-we need more for next time!

 

 

I mixed up a bowl of cornstarch, baking soda, water and food coloring.

I put roughly equal amounts of the cornstarch and baking soda, then added water.

I kinda just dumped it in. ;-)

 

I poured the white mixture into the squeeze bottles before I added the food coloring.

 

 

 

 

Peighton did a lot of large paintings that turned out really great!

 

Preston was more into squeezing his into a circle around him and making puddles.

 

 

I think I could have made a few gallons of this and they still would have wanted more!

Good thing cornstarch and baking soda is cheap!!!!

 

 

We ended our morning of painting and playing outside with some fun kabobs for lunch!

 

We will be getting more squeeze bottles and doing this again very soon!

 

 



Too many zucchini to count...

The kids and I planted a garden this spring.

Just a few things...cucumbers, peas, tomatoes, peppers, and of course zucchini.

Everything has done pretty well....except for the zucchini....it has done EXCEPTIONALLY well.

We have made more zucchini recipes than I can remember.

Most have been pretty good and the kids have eaten it.

I have shredded and frozen somewhere around 20 cups of zucchini for future recipes.

I've even given some away and yet there are still....more...zucchini.

So, the kids and I decided to use a few for some art!

I cut them up and used them for stamps.

I used my  mini cookie cutters to make a few shapes and we also used the flat part of the zucchini too.

Preston LOVES to paint.

He was very intrigued by the shape on the zucchini.

And this is Preston becoming a smurf...

We had a messy, fun afternoon!

Peighton asked if we were still going to eat it when we were done....no worries, kid, we have plenty!

Now, we have to go check the garden....I bet there's a few more waiting for me...



Homemade Puff Paint

Peighton and Preston were busy irritating each other from the moment they got up this morning!!!!!!

Which meant we needed to do something out of the ordinary that they could both be involved in.

I did a lot of messy art projects when I was teaching special needs kids as well as when I taught preschool.

I kept a lot of the books from my classroom knowing that one day I just might do a few of the projects with my own kids!

I flipped through one of my books this morning and found a recipe for making our own Puff Paint!

The recipe is super simple and needs normal pantry items-it was the perfect thing to make in a few minutes!

PUFF PAINT

1 cup flour

1 cup water

1 cup salt

paint or food coloring (I used washable paint)

Mix them all together and put into squeeze bottles.
I used some ketchup and mustard bottles I found at Wal-mart.

I made 2 batches and divided it into 4 colors before putting it into my squeeze bottles.

Preston was very happy he got to do this art project-sometimes he's not always allowed to do the same things as "Sis!"

Peighton set right to work making all sorts of lovely designs.

At one point Preston did end up tasting the puff paint....he quickly decided that it was not worth eating!!!!!



They are currently still drying and I think might take awhile.

Peighton says they look a bit glittery!

Depending on how they turn out they could make some fun valentine cards for the Grandma's!
